IIST

Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST), a deemed to be University under Section 3 of the UGC Act 1956, functions as an autonomous body under the Department of Space, Government of India and is the first of its kind in the country, to offer high quality education in undergraduate, post-graduate, doctoral and post-doctoral levels in areas relevant to space sciences, technology and applications. The institute has the unique honour of Late Dr A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, the renowned technocrat and former President of India, as its very first Chancellor. Dr B.N. Suresh, the founder Director of IIST is the current Chancellor. This institute with a scenic lush green campus renders completely free education to its meritorious undergraduate students. IIST faculty members also work in close collaboration with scientists/engineers of DoS/ISRO.

Department of Chemistry

Department of Chemistry, Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST), Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, is organizing  ‘National Conference on Recent Trends in Materials Science and Technology -2020’ (NCMST-2020),  8th conference of the NCMST series, during 7-9 December 2020 on virtual platform.

100 Years of Polymer Science

The year 2020 marks the 100th anniversary of a seminal paper published in 1920 by Hermann Staudinger (Über Polymerisation. Ber. Dtsch. Chem. Ges. 1920;53:1073–85) in which he proposed the pioneering hypothesis of the long chain molecular structures, consisting of a large number of covalently linked monomeric units. Polymers have had major role in improving the quality of life in almost all aspects ever since the publication of this article and we thrive in a world that is almost impossible to imagine without synthetic polymers. Commemorating the publication of this article, the field of Polymer Science celebrates 100 years of its existence in 2020. IIST proudly joins the global celebrations by organizing NCMST-2020 with the focal theme of Polymer Science and Technology. The conference will discuss on the recent developments in Materials Science and Technology with an emphasis on Polymer Science and allied fields. One full day of the conference will be dedicated to the deliberations on the seminal contributions by the field of Polymer Science to the advancements in Materials Science and Technology.

The conference consists of plenary and invited lectures by the pioneers in Materials Science and Technology and oral presentations and digital poster presentations by young researchers.
