About IIST

The Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST) is a premier academic institution located in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, India. Established in 2007 under the Department of Space, Government of India, IIST is the first institute in the country dedicated to the study and research in space science and technology. The institute operates under the aegis of the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), which provides substantial support and resources for its academic and research initiatives. IIST offers undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programs in space science, engineering, and technology, with a particular focus on the development of skilled personnel for India's space program. It is renowned for its cutting-edge research in satellite technology, space exploration, and related fields. The institute has the enviable reputation of having had Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, the renowned technocrat and the former President of India as its very first Chancellor. Dr. B.N. Suresh, the founder Director of IIST is the current Chancellor. The IIST faculty members work in close collaboration with scientists/engineers of DoS/ISRO in various projects in diverse aspects of Space Science and Technology.
