Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST), Thiruvananthapuram was established in 2007 as an autonomous body under the Department of Space, Government of India. We primarily focus on space sciences, space technology and space applications. Our mission is to create a unique learning environment built upon ethics and values and enriched by the challenges of the Space Programme. Currently in our second decade, we are keen to nurture the spirit of innovation and creativity and therefore promote academic and research activities to address space and societal needs at large. Along with supporting Indian Space programs to be in the forefront of ‘space race’ by training high quality manpower, IIST ascribes distinctive value to the ‘invisible assets’ - such as know-how, designs, inventions, products, along with other ingenious and innovative merchandises emerging during its long march towards accomplishing its goals. In line with the conferred Deemed to be University status under Section 3 of the UGC Act 1956, IIST through its IPR Cell, envisages to fulfil Institute’s commitment to endorse academic freedom and provide a conducive environment for research, innovation and advancement. IPR Cell is committed to protect the rights of the Inventor(s) of IIST i.e. faculty/students /project staff/ supporting staff /collaborators through Intellectual property protection on a novel work or to keep it in public domain for commercial exploitation as they may deem fit.
