Abstract:
In my presentation I will start with a brief history of solar magnetic field measurements with a list of key milestones. I will then talk about basics of spectropolarimetry and then key concepts behind magnetograph design and calibration. The choice of various strategies used for countering the challenges posed by the ground and space based magnetographs will be elaborated. I will then talk about few example magnetographs based on different approaches such as Michelson interferometer, Fabry-Perot etalons, and spectrograph. Latest trends in high resolution and high sensitivity polarimetry will be covered in the end.
