Abstract:
Quasi-periodic oscillations (QPOs) are a key manifestation of magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) processes in the solar atmosphere and provide important diagnostics of plasma dynamics during eruptive events. In this study, we investigate intensity oscillations observed in the Hα continuum during the prominence eruption and associated coronal mass ejection (CME) of 2nd July 2015. The dataset was obtained from the Mauna Loa Solar Observatory (MLSO), offering high-cadence and high-quality white-light Hα imaging of the eruption site. To extract intrinsic oscillatory modes embedded in the flare-associated emission, we applied wavelet and Empirical Mode Decomposition (EMD), a data-adaptive technique well-suited for analyzing non-linear and non-stationary signals. This method allows the separation of physically significant oscillations from background variability and stochastic fluctuations. Our analysis reveals two distinct periodic components with characteristic timescales of approximately 5 minutes and 8.5 minutes in the intensity profile of the erupting structure.
